Liverpool lifted the first major trophy of the season at Wembley on Sunday by winning the League Cup for a record ninth time following victory over Chelsea.
Success on penalties secured a 44th major trophy for the Reds, putting them two behind Manchester United in the ranking of England’s most successful clubs.
But Villa fans will be delighted to know that their own record stands, with the club having won 20 major trophies in their history, putting them two behind big-spending Manchester City, who sit in fifth place.
Villa have won seven league titles, seven FA Cup victories and five League Cup successes, not to mention the glorious 1982 European Cup victory when they beat mighty Bayern Munich.
Indeed, Villa are one of five English clubs to have lifted Europe’s major award with Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest the other four to have lifted the trophy.
Tottenham sit just below Villa in the league table with 17 major trophies to their name while West Midlands rivals Wolves sit in 11th place with Nottingham Forest.
Everton and Newcastle are eighth and ninth respectively, underlining how well Villa have achieved.
And head coach Steven Gerrard will no doubt aim to put another trophy in the cabinet during his reign at the club.
Will Gerrard deliver silverware to Villa? Let us know in the comments below.
