Udupi, September 17: National Hindi Day was celebrated in a unique way on September 14 at St Mary’s Auditorium. Prior to the celebration, a week of literary and cultural activities from September 9 to 14 was organized for students in grades 1 to 10 under the title “HINDI DARSHAN”.
The official program began with a prayer song in Hindi. Manjula spoke about the cultural heritage of Hindi in India as a national language. An action song and a wish song were performed by a student choir highlighting the theme of the program. The school’s oldest Hindi teacher and vice principal Rita Quadros was the chief guest on this special occasion. She pointed to the widespread popularity of the Hindi language across the world and advised students to develop effective communication skills in this language. Later, a short Hindi skit “Theen pathange” illustrating the value of freedom was acted out by students.
Senior Father Johnson Sequeira, in his presidential address, highlighted the influential role played by Hindi in connecting the hearts and lives of Indians. He also appreciated the students’ enthusiastic participation in the Hindi week activities. The winners of various contests such as story writing, quizzes, word puzzles, writing slogans, making ornaments and designs using Hindi alphabets, action song , etc. organized during the celebration of the “Hindi week” were congratulated on this occasion.
