Arsenal defender Ben White has amassed more clean sheets than any other centre-back in the English Premier League this season.
After enjoying an impressive 2020/21 campaign with Brighton, White signed for the Gunners last summer in a £50million deal – a fee which raised some eyebrows at the time. However, he has since established himself as one of the most consistent centre-halves in the division, despite a difficult start to the season.
Speaking about his difficult start, he said: “I didn’t play very well against Brentford and then I caught Covid so I was out for another two games. It was difficult to start and it wasn’t not what I wanted but, to come throughout the season now, I play every week, the team is doing very well and it’s very positive from here.”

The 24-year-old has formed a strong partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes at the heart of Mikel Arteta’s defense and he has recorded 13 clean sheets in just 25 league appearances – more than any other England centre-back.
White was released from Southampton as a teenager before joining Brighton, but it was a loan spell at Newport County in League Two where he witnessed a different side of professional football. Speaking about his time with the Welsh side, he added: “It was one of the best years of my life.
“I went from playing at an academy where everything is fine and you have everything you want. Then you go there and everything is completely different.
“You have a curry for your pre-game meal. In my first game there was a fistfight at half-time, between our own players in our own dressing room.
“It was a bit scary to be fair. I didn’t want to make any mistakes, that’s for sure. When you go and play in these leagues you see what you should be doing and probably things you shouldn’t be doing. to get to the next level.”
