A talented young dancer has landed a cast role in the English Youth Ballet (EYB) production of Coppélia.
Isobel Cunningham, nine, from Accrington, auditioned for a role in the cast in January, with the EYB performing the ballet at St George’s Hall in Bradford at the end of that month.
The All Saints CE Primary School student is currently living the life of a professional dancer rehearsing for ballet alongside a cohort of professional performers.
Mum, Emma Christian said: “We are so proud of her.
“She’ll be dancing alongside professionals who’ve been in some of the biggest production companies, so it’s really good for her to have that experience and see where she could progress if she wants to.
“She’s been doing ballet since she was four but dancing since she was two. By the time she started moving, she was on her feet dancing.”
Isobel, who trained at Sanderson Dance School in Blackburn, is not limited to ballet, however, and can add street dancing, acro and Latin to her repertoire.
Emma continued: “It’s the only thing she’s really stuck with. She tried gymnastics and swimming, but dancing was the one… she even asked us if we could convert the garage into a studio. dance.”
EYB is one of the UK‘s leading ballet companies and has already won the Stage Award for special achievement in regional theatre.
The story of Coppélia follows the escapades of the dreamer Franz and how he comically falls in love with a beautiful lifelike doll.
Coppélia will be screened on Friday April 22 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday April 23 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at St George’s Hall in Bradford.
