President Murmu highlights India’s success story in his address to the nation

NEW DELHI: In her maiden address to the nation, Indian President Draupadi Murmu on the eve of Independence Day spoke of India’s vibrant democracy, Atmanirbhar Bharat, the success of Covid-19 vaccines 19 and the growth of the Indian economy after the pandemic.

It is a reason for joy “not only for all of us but also for all defenders of democracy in the world,” the president said on Sunday.

“When India gained independence, many world leaders and authorities were concerned about the viability of its democratic system of government. They had their reasons for doubt. The only democratic countries at that time were those with a developed economy. India was characterized by poverty. and illiteracy after being exploited for so long by foreign rulers. But we Indians have denied the skeptics. On this soil, democracy not only flourished but also gained ground,” the president said.

President Murmu said that #AzadikaAmritmahotsav festival is dedicated to Indian people.

“This Mahotsav also includes the determination to create ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, which will be based on the success achieved by the people. A series of activities held across the country have attracted the enthusiastic participation of citizens of all age groups” , she added.

The President added when reviewing the nation’s progress in immunization: “In recent years, especially during the outbreak of Covid-19, the world has witnessed the emergence of a new India. Everywhere we were grateful for our response to the pandemic.With vaccines produced in the nation itself, we launched the largest vaccination campaign in human history.

“We reached 200 crore cumulative vaccination coverage last month. Our successes in fighting the pandemic have surpassed those of many wealthy countries. We appreciate the work of our scientists, medical professionals, nurses, paramedics and vaccinators. The pandemic, according to the president, has destroyed businesses and uprooted lives all over the world.

“India has pulled itself together and is now moving forward as the rest of the world grapples with the economic effects of the Great Depression. One of the world’s major economies with the fastest growing rates is India India’s startup ecosystem is one of the best in the world.

“For overcoming the global trend and fostering economic growth, the government and policymakers deserve praise. Over the past few years, the development of physical and digital infrastructure has made extraordinary progress,” the president said.
