A New Brighton cafe in Wirral offers ‘cheap and cheerful’ breakfasts to suit all tastes, including full English, toast, crumpets and more.
Smugglers Cave on Victoria Road serves delicious breakfasts at great prices. When I visited on a sunny Thursday morning, there were plenty of locals enjoying their breakfast and sipping coffee and tea while chatting inside and outside the cafe.
I was warmly welcomed by the staff and given the last available table inside. As soon as the menu was placed in my hand I was very impressed with the choices and prices – it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a full English breakfast for less than £5.

Full English is available in different sizes – small (£4.35), medium (£5.50) and large (£6.50). I opted for the breakfast which consisted of a piece of bacon, sausage, black pudding, a fried egg, beans and two slices of toast, and ordered a coffee with milk (£2.20) to go with it.
Service was very quick with my breakfast and drinks arriving piping hot within 10 minutes. The latte came in a large mug on a small serving tray with a beach scene – perfect for a cafe by the sea. The latte was nice and milky with a strong coffee taste which was much needed at 9am.
The fried egg had a runny yolk, the bacon and sausage were perfectly cooked, and the toast was thick white bread, much to my delight. I have to say the most outstanding item of breakfast was the black pudding. I’m not usually a big fan of black pudding, but the one from Smugglers Cave was delicious. It’s the first time that I’ve finished everything!
Overall I was very impressed with the flavor of the food and the prices. Smugglers Cave has a real community feel and a happy atmosphere with people chatting to each other. If you’re in New Brighton and fancy a hassle-free breakfast in a relaxed setting, this cafe on Victoria Road is the place to go.
