Maricel Soriano joins the cast of romantic comedy ‘Re-Live’ | English Film News

One of the Philippines’ most award-winning actresses, Maricel Soriana, is set to star in Rain Valdez’s feature debut “Re-Live: A Tale of an American Island Cheerleader.” The upcoming trans-led rom-com is written by Rachel Leyco and Valdez and the duo also star in it as sisters Rochelle and Rowena, respectively.

According to reports, Soriana will play the role of their mother in the film.

The story centers on Rowena, a transgender movie star who returns home to Guam for “recovery week” from her high school reunion. Rowena’s plan to live out her childhood dream of being a cheerleader fails when her mother’s cancer begins to worsen and she learns to appreciate the family she left behind.

“Having a legendary Filipino actress like Maricel Soriano reinforces our commitment to telling our stories from our authentic experiences and for our Filipino diaspora,” Leyco and Valdez said in a statement.

“Now more than ever, this allows us to further showcase our communities at a time when visibility must be taken to new heights to combat rising anti-trans and anti-Asian violence,” they added. .

Jhett Tolentino will produce the project in association with Shant Joshi’s Fae Pictures.

Production will begin in November in Hawaii and Guam.
