Just two weeks into the 2022-23 English Premier League (EPL) season, the household names have risen to the top, as Manchester City top the league with Arsenal. The real news, however, comes from what is happening down below, as Manchester United are trailing at 0-2 with a -5 goal differential.
Let’s take a closer look at a few games I see value in this week.
Tottenham v Wolves
Picking up where they left off in 2021-22 with a Champions League place assured, Tottenham have gone off to another torrid pace this season in their opening two games. After picking up a 4-1 win over Southampton to start the season, they earned a 2-2 draw against Chelsea last week on the road in a game that turned into a back-and-forth fight.
On the other side of this game, Wolves have been among the worst teams in the EPL across two games. Losing their first round game to lowly Leeds, Wolves failed to find the back of the net last week against Fulham and have little threat to speak of.
Take: Tottenham 1H (-120)
Crystal Palace v Aston Villa
Led by former Nice manager Patrick Vieira, Crystal Palace have strengthened their squad this season, and many are calling them to be a real threat at the top of the EPL. So far so good, like Crystal Palace. The schedule makers did them a disservice, however, as they opened up against Arsenal and Liverpool, going 0-1-1 so far despite playing solid play in both.
They will now host an Aston Villa side who suffered lay-ups in their opening two games, going 1-1-0 with a -1 goal differential. Led by striker Wilfried Zaha, I like Palace finding the winners column as their solid play is eventually rewarded with a decisive victory.
Take: Crystal Palace +145
Bournemouth v Arsenal
Finishing fifth on the table last season just outside the top seed in the Champions League, Arsenal are back on a mission this year to get what they think is theirs. So far so good as they are 2-0 in two games with a +2 goal differential as Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli lead the way with four goals combined.
For newly-promoted Bournemouth, their maiden win is behind them, as is their maiden loss, as they enter week three 1-1-0 with a -2 goal differential. Although they may stay in the middle of the table this season, I like that Arsenal are battling their chests in this one, retiring late with a big win.
Take: Arsenal -1 +125
