Hearts have postponed the Premiership competition to seal the return of Alex Cochrane.
The 22-year-old has agreed a permanent three-year deal after a successful loan spell at Tynecastle last season. Robbie Neilson’s side are currently attending a hot-weather training camp in Spain, with the defender becoming the Jambos’ fourth summer signing alongside Alan Forrest, Kye Rowles and Lewis Neilson.
The English Premier League side triggered a contract extension before agreeing to sell Cochrane, but Hearts had to fend off interest from Coventry City and Michael Beale’s Queen’s Park Rangers. soccer scotland exclusively revealed that the deal was to be done and the Jambos have now done it to delight fans with a Love Island themed announcement.
Neilson told the club’s website: “It’s fantastic to have Alex back permanently. He was a big part of the team’s success last season, so bringing him back as a Hearts player for three years is great news.
“His versatility on that left side is hugely important to the way we play and I think he has benefited enormously from a full season of first-team football under his belt.
“He’s a popular lad in the dressing room and obviously there’s a lot of familiarity there, so hopefully he can pick up where he left off last season and get back on top.
Cochrane expressed his joy at moving, saying: “I just thought it was the right place for me. I had a lot of fun last season.
“The team had a great campaign and I want to be part of it again, to continue in the league as well as in European and cup competitions because the team we have here, we have the ability to do that again. .
